The
Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel sits on a 15-acre private property of
exuberant tropical forest on the outskirts of Aguas Calientes, ten minutes from the train station at Machu Picchu. Shuttle
buses can take you from the town to the Machu
Picchu archaeological park in about 30 minutes. The hotel resembles
a typical Andean village with casitas built in adobe, eucalyptus
wood and stone. The spacious rooms are tastefully decorated with
local handicrafts, natural sheep skin rugs, hand-woven bedspreads,
tile floors, wooden beams, colonial cabinets and red cedar furniture.
Most rooms also have fireplaces. The main house contains a spacious
lounge with fireplace, a restaurant and bar. In addition there are
spa facilities including an Andean Sauna, and Swedish foot and body
massages. There is also an orchid trail with 372 species of flowers,
plus a bird-watching trail for 156 birds, a butterfly program with
108 types of butterflies and a tea plantation trip. There is even
a speckled bear in its own compound. |
