Colonial Cities, Archaeology & Indian Markets
Reception, Hotel Casa Santo Domingo, Antigua, Guatemala

Guatemalan Highlands

There are many colorful buildings in Antigua. Also, there are no telephone poles in the old city - all of the wires are underground, thereby preserving the Old World colonial atmosphere!Antigua, former Spanish colonial capital city of the Central American viceroyalty, was founded in 1543. Though partially destroyed by the 1773 earthquake, it still preserves its colonial character with ornate churches, convents and Spanish-style homes. It is also home to some of the best quality arts and crafts in the country — a "must see" on any trip to Guatemala.

Chichicastenango and Lake Atitlan

Chichicastenango is noted for its open-air market on Thursdays and Sundays, where colorful native handicrafts of the region are traded. This is also the site of 400-year-old Santo Tomas Church, Chichicastenango open-air market, Guatemala
where to this day Catholic and Pagan rites are blended. Lake Atitlan is a mile-high spectacularly beautiful lake set among volcano peaks and surrounded by 12 Indian villages named after the 12 apostles.

Note: All of the following tours are quoted via either shuttle van service with a driver only, with upgrades to private vehicles with a driver only, or with an expert, bilingual driver/guide. It's your choice! Overnight in Guatemala City or Antigua NOT included.
