Right
in the middle of downtown is located one of the oldest buildings
in all of Patagonia, the splendid century-old Jose Nogueira Hotel,
formerly the mansion owned by Don Jose Nogueira and Doña
Sara Braun, two characters who wrote much of the history of Patagonia.
The mansion became one of the most outstanding symbols of the
city, and in 1982 it was declared a national monument. In 1992
is was converted into a small and exclusive hotel, and had the
privilege of being chosen by His Majesty the King of Spain Juan
Carlos de Borbon as his temporary residence during his visit to
Punta Arenas in 2004. The Jose Nogueira hotel has 23 rooms, including
five suites, exquisitely decorated with all services and comfort
of a grand hotel. During the renovation, the available spaces
were adapted so that the structure of the building would not be
charged, and therefore all of the rooms are not exactly the same.
For this reason, some rooms are bigger than others, but each one
has its own personality and characteristics, and all have a high
level of comfort. Room amenities include central heating, telephone,
color television, minibar, and safe. Hotel amenities include
room-service, bar, conference rooms and parking. In addition,
the Jose Nogueira Hotel has two indoor dining rooms and the winter
garden Pergola dining room. The first two contain the original
furniture, lamps, and curtains of the mansion, and in the Pergola
guests can dine enjoying the long summer days, with daylight until
11 PM. Here one can taste typical Patagonian and international
foods. The Jose Nogueira Hotel is an ideal accommodation for those
seeking modern service and style while in the setting of a bygone
era..
