Founded
in 1985, La Selva Verde Lodge is located in the lush lowlands of
northeastern Costa Rica on a large, 500-acre private tract of virgin
tropical rainforest and rich second-growth habitats. It is adjacent
to Braulio Carrillo National Park and the Organization for Tropical
Studies' field station, La Selva, a graduate training and international
research center that has been owned and operated by the OTS since
1968. While at La Selva Verde, the visitor may schedule an array
of activities suited to every interest and ability, from relaxing
in a hammock and absorbing the wonder of the forest, to canoeing
on the Sarapiqui River, or hiking La Selva Verde's rainforest trails
with a resident naturalist. Delicious meals featuring the local
cuisine are served by gracious, native Costa Ricans. An open and
spacious dining room with its thatched roof harmonizes well with
the jungle ambience. The resident managers, fluent in English and
Spanish, are attentive to the visitors' needs. La Selva Verde is
a rainforest lodge that is dedicated to educating its guests on
the wonders and natural beauty of Costa Rica's unique and fragile
tropical rainforest with its ever-expanding reference library. The
Lodge provides ample accommodations with 40 double (or triple occupancy)
rooms with private baths and showers, and five quadruple rooms with
shared facilities. The rooms are well maintained and open onto large,
spacious, wooden balconies.
